Chasing Rabbits
About
Dannielle Hodson's debut solo exhibition in NYC, Chasing Rabbits, will open on Thursday, September 5th 6-8PM at Kravets Wehby Gallery. In her luscious new oil paintings, chaos ensues in pursuit of the white rabbit as Dannielle's intuition leads the way. The journey itself is impromptu and where it ends is to be discovered.
Transformation is at the very core of Dannielle’s artistic practice. Her work, guided by an inexhaustible imagination, begins with the palettes of historic painters but quickly evolves into something entirely her own. Wild-eyed, teeth-baring monstrous figures emerge from her canvases, reimagining and mutating the vast expanse of art history as they unfold before our eyes. This process of constant transformation reflects the inherent unpredictability of the human experience, with each painting serving as a testament to the fluidity of existence.
The chaotic scenes she conjures, reminiscent of the intricate, otherworldly visions of Hieronymus Bosch and Pieter Brueghel, and the surreal absurdities of Leonora Carrington, overflow with visual information. These complex worlds resist singular interpretation, instead inviting viewers to immerse themselves in the complexity of the evolving landscapes. The interconnectedness of beings and objects within her work suggests a perpetual state of becoming, where each element is in a constant process of reconfiguration.
As Dannielle’s scenes take shape, the blobs, scraps, and remnants of her palette are absorbed into these realms, becoming integral parts of the worlds she creates. In this way, her paintings exist as both distinct entities and as pieces of an endless continuum of transformation.
